pet fencingNo matter what kind of pet you have living or using your garden it is important to keep them safe and in some cases keep them in. If you don’t have the right kind of fencing then it could repeatedly fail at its purpose. This is why choosing the right type of fencing for you and your pet is vital for it performing correctly.

Below are some examples of the types of pet fencing available;

  • Dog fencing – There are different varieties of fencing that is suitable for keeping your dog in your garden, some slightly more technical than others but all are effective. Some of the different kinds that can be used for dogs are;
    • Standard mesh fence – This is a fairly basic style of fencing for dogs and should be fitted properly to be most effective. If the fencing is not fitted properly then it may be possible for the dog to escape by climbing underneath or through the side of the fence. It is usually fitted by having a number of posts securely placed around the parameter and then the mesh will run between the posts, the mesh is secured usually by staples or nails.
    • Under ground fencing – This is a much more modern style of fencing and is proving very popular and effective. It works by having a radio transmitter wire buried around the parameter and the dog wearing a transceiver around its neck, when the dog nears the boundary there will be an alert to let the dog know it is nearing the edge. It is used as a training method rather than a physical barrier, so eventually the dog will learn where the boundary is.
  • Cat fencing – As with dog fencing there are a number of different types of fencing for either keeping your cat in or others out. Some of these fencing types are below;
    • Electric fencing – This is one of the more extreme types of fencing you can have installed to keep cats out of your garden. They usually consist of a single wire being stretched along the top of your existing wall or fence and having enough charge to shock when contact is made.
    • pet fencingThere are fences that can keep your cat in your garden and other cats out at the same time. This kind of fencing is great for those that have an old or ill cat that needs to have no contact with other cats. It usually consists of a normal wooden fence surrounding the parameter then a distance up the fence there is a ledge that has plastic spikes on top of it. This stops your cat being able to get out of your garden and it also deters others from entering.

There are of course other variations of fencing that are useful for other types of pet, you will be able to find out which is best for you by speaking to a professional fencer.
